THE FUTURE OF SIGMA CHI INSURED
Gifts of Life Insurance

Gifts of Life Insurance are a way to leverage your support of the Foundation to support the educational and leadership programs of Sigma Chi into the future. There are several options to provide this type of gift. If you choose to name the Foundation as a beneficiary you would continue to make premium payments to your insurance company. You can also choose to make the Foundation the owner of the policy and make tax-deductible gifts to the Foundation to pay the premiums. Upon payment of the policy, the funds would be used for your designated purpose.

There are three ways you can use life insurance to support Sigma Chi:

Name the Sigma Chi Foundation as a partial or full beneficiary of an existing policy.

  • You retain control of the policy and are responsible for outstanding premium payments to keep the policy in force.
  • You can change the beneficiary designation or cancel the policy in the future.
  • Your gift may qualify for estate tax benefits due to a reduction of taxable estate assets.
  • If you are interested in this option, contact your insurance provider for a change of beneficiary form.

Transfer ownership and beneficiary designation of an existing policy to the Sigma Chi Foundation.

  • The Foundation takes control of the policy.
  • You may continue to pay outstanding premium payments to keep the policy in force, or you may make tax deductible gifts to the Sigma Chi Foundation of an amount equal to the policy premium. The Foundation would pay the premium.
  • Your gift may qualify for immediate tax benefits (consult with your tax advisor.)
  • If you are interested in this option, contact your insurance provider for a change of owner and beneficiary form.

Purchase a new policy and designate the Sigma Chi Foundation as owner and beneficiary.

  • The Foundation takes control of the policy.
  • You make tax deductible gifts to the Sigma Chi Foundation of an amount equal to the policy premium. The Foundation would pay the premium.
  • Your gift may qualify for immediate tax benefits (consult with your tax advisor.)
  • If you are interested in this option, contact your insurance provider, if you already have one, about taking out a new policy.

The Sigma Chi Foundation recognizes those who create planned gifts with membership in the James Parks Caldwell Society.
