$150,000 Watson Match Challenge to Support Museum Reconstruction

EVANSTON, IL (January 7, 2015) — A new state-of-the-art, interactive experience detailing the storied history of Sigma Chi Fraternity is steps away from becoming an integral part of the J. Dwight Peterson International Fraternity Headquarters of Sigma Chi.

The SIGMA CHI FOUNDATION and Chuck Watson, Oklahoma State 1972, are giving brothers and alumni an opportunity to further completion of the reconstruction, renovation and ongoing maintenance of the headquarters museum via a $150,000 match challenge.

Watson, Past Chairman of the Foundation and current member of the Foundation Board of Governors, and his wife, Kim, have pledged a personal donation of $150,000 towards the project and are inviting all Sigma Chis to help equal their gift by April 1, 2015.

"I have always admired the character expressed by our Founders and believe that the history and the ideals of Sigma Chi are appropriate for all of our Brothers to live by," said Watson.

The Sigma Chi Foundation will recognize gifts of $2,500 or more received by the end-of-year deadline via inscription on a special plaque that will be permanently displayed inside the Evanston-based museum.

"We're very excited about this museum renovation," said Sigma Chi Foundation president and CEO Greg Harbaugh, Purdue 1978. "It's a partnership between the Fraternity and the Foundation that is really going to set the bar for any Greek organization's museum moving forward. We're grateful for past Foundation board chairman Chuck Watson's support with this initiative."

The museum will display a collection of artifacts and memorabilia representing the Fraternity's history, its Founders, and its many outstanding alumni Brothers since the Fraternity's founding in 1855. After the renovation the museum will debut various forms of new media and interactivity to heighten the visitor experience.

"The Sigma Chi museum renovation will provide a long overdue update to the display and interpretation of the Sigma Chi story, through our long and interesting history," said Past Grand Consul Douglas Carlson, Minnesota 1973, a member of the Foundation-Fraternity museum planning committee. "For the first time, we will have interactivity and streaming video interspersed with our irreplaceable treasures and artifacts."

"For the first time, our museum will speak to us of the great strides and passions of the Fraternity. Chuck Watson has provided a remarkable challenge to fund the Sigma Chi history story in a state-of-the-art facility. We must all join in supporting this campaign to bring our museum into the 21st century."
